The provision of trauma-informed care (TIC) is the clinical standard when caring for patients who have experienced sexual trauma. TIC encompasses five core principles (safety, choice, collaboration, trustworthiness, and empowerment) that can help clinicians provide high-quality care and reduce the likelihood of retraumatization (Harris & Fallot, 2001).
